QUICK FIELD CHECK
Turn the combat state into the next healing action.
The core loop is short, but the card in your hand still decides the exact result. These are the current Demo checks—not a promise that every food heals 5.
- No food in hand
- Do nextApply Seasoned before the enemy dies.
- Expected resultThe status creates the shown number of Toasties when that enemy is killed.
- Basic Toasty
- Do nextPlay it after you have lost health.
- Expected resultThe current card heals 5, then consumes that copy.
- Heart Burn in hand
- Do nextAvoid eating until the penalty is safe or the Curse is removed.
- Expected resultEach eaten card triggers 1 damage in Demo build 23718635.
- Another food card
- Do nextRead its own actions, cost, and remaining uses.
- Expected resultSoups and kebabs do not inherit the basic Toasty's Heal 5 text.
HEALING LOOP
Season, kill, then eat.
Before attacking, read the enemy status and your card's reward text. Seasoned says that the enemy will spawn the shown number of Toasties when it dies.
Kill the Seasoned enemy. Confirm that a Toasty actually enters your hand or reward area; applying the status without landing the kill does not complete the healing loop.
Play a basic Toasty after you have lost health. Its current record needs no target, costs 0, heals 5, and then consumes that copy.
Read every other food card separately. Toasty Kebab, soups, and other edible results can have different actions, values, uses, or Fatal conditions; do not transfer Toasty's Heal 5 text to them.
Check your hand for Heart Burn before eating. Its recorded Curse effect makes you take 1 damage whenever you eat, so a healing action can carry an immediate penalty.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
Your HP rises by the food card's resolved healing amount and the used basic Toasty disappears. For the current basic Toasty record, the visible result is Heal 5 followed by Consume.
VERSION BOUNDARY
Verified for the core Demo healing loop: Team Lazerbeam describes eating enemies to restore health, an independent PC Gamer playthrough identifies attacks and Seasoned as the usual food sources, and build 23718635 records the basic Toasty's Heal 5 plus Consume actions. Other food cards can have different values, uses, or no healing at all, and Early Access may rebalance the loop.
CARDS IN THIS ANSWER
Know the effect before you build around it.
Ability text is tied to the recorded Demo build. “How you get it” stays cautious where a packaged shop value does not prove a guaranteed reward.

Combat / Food
Toasty
- What it does
- Heals 5, then consumes itself. The current Demo record carries Food 1 and needs no target.
- How you get it
- A Seasoned enemy is recorded to spawn Toasties when it dies. The packaged Toasty record also lists shop cost 2, but neither field guarantees a Toasty in every run.
- Use it with
- Save it until you have lost health. Check for Heart Burn before eating: that Curse damages you whenever you eat, and Consume destroys the Toasty after use.

Combat / Attack
Hot Poker
- What it does
- Hits three times for 1 damage each. A Fatal hit creates one Toasty Kebab.
- How you get it
- The packaged Demo record lists a shop cost of 1; it does not establish a guaranteed shop or reward appearance.
- Use it with
- Its record contains three separate damage actions, while a food/eat payoff can use the Toasty Kebab created by a finishing blow. How a particular damage upgrade changes all three hits still needs a current-build comparison.

Combat / Food
Spicy Soup
- What it does
- Deals 3 damage to all. A Fatal hit creates one Toasty; the Demo record carries three uses.
- How you get it
- It is a Soup Pot result in the Demo. The exact ingredient recipe is not yet stable enough for this guide to publish.
- Use it with
- Fits an eat/food engine and can finish several weakened enemies at once. Pairing it with Foul Breath is a strategy inference to verify in the current run.

Explore / Curse
Heart Burn
- What it does
- Punishes eating: the recorded trigger deals 1 damage whenever a card is eaten.
- How you get it
- Curse cards are added by telegraphed enemy actions. The exact enemy-to-card mapping is not yet verified.
- How to clear / avoid
- Avoid eating while it is active. Heart Burn is not recorded as Temporary and has no self-consuming action, so wait for an explicit remove, exile, or encounter exit.
