Card mechanic · A zero-cost card still needs a target

How to use the Hope card in Shroom and Gloom

Hope costs 0, but clicking it seems to do nothing and you expected the cost reduction to happen automatically.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Hope is not automatic. Drag it onto another card in your combat hand. In Demo build 23718635, Hope costs 0, targets a Card, reduces that target's cost by 1, and then draws 1 card. Hope itself is Temporary, so use it while it is in hand instead of expecting it to cycle back later.

TARGETING ORDER

Aim Hope at the card you want cheaper.

  1. Keep Hope and another card that costs at least 1 in the same combat hand. Hope needs a card target; clicking empty space or an enemy will not apply its effect.

  2. Drag Hope directly onto the card whose cost you want to lower. The player explanation calls this point-and-play: choose the card, not the battlefield.

  3. Check the chosen card immediately after Hope resolves. Its displayed cost should be 1 lower.

  4. Check your hand again. The current action record resolves Reduce Cost: 1 and then Draw Cards: 1, so one replacement card should enter the hand after the reduction.

  5. Use the discounted card while the timing is useful. Hope carries Temporary, so once Hope leaves the hand it is destroyed rather than returning through an ordinary redraw.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

The selected Combat card shows a cost 1 lower, one card is drawn, and Hope leaves the hand. If no card highlights as a valid target, make sure you are dragging onto another card rather than an enemy or empty space.

VERSION BOUNDARY

The target, cost reduction, draw count, and Temporary property come from the current Demo build record. The point-and-play instruction comes from an older independent player exchange and matches that current target field. Shop cost 2 is recorded, but no source proves that Hope appears in every shop or run; recheck its values and availability in Early Access.

Ability text is tied to the recorded Demo build. “How you get it” stays cautious where a packaged shop value does not prove a guaranteed reward.
