QUICK FIELD CHECK
Know what survives when you leave the Demo.
The active run and permanent progress use different rules. Check the state you care about before choosing Main Menu or Quit.
- Active run
- What the Demo keepsNothing from the unfinished route: current decks, upgrades, health, and room position are not resumable.
- What you see nextReopening starts a new run; the Demo does not offer Continue.
- Completed Gift
- What the Demo keepsThe chosen Gift from Below joins the persistent Foresight pool for later runs.
- What you see nextIt can appear as a later Foresight chest offer; the previous run itself does not return.
- SaveData JSON
- What the Demo keepsPersistent JSON files exist locally and are included in the Demo's Steam Cloud configuration.
- What you see nextBack them up before troubleshooting; their presence does not create a mid-run checkpoint.
- Early Access save
- What the Demo keepsTeam Lazerbeam says the September 10 Early Access build will include run saving.
- What you see nextThe exact menu wording and checkpoint timing remain unverified until that build launches.
BEFORE YOU LEAVE
Protect the progress that can persist.
Before choosing Main Menu or Quit, decide whether you are willing to lose the active decks, card upgrades, current health, room position, and unfinished route. The Demo does not create a resumable mid-run checkpoint.
Do not treat the existence of saved unlocks as proof that the current run is saved. A completed Gift from Below can persist into the Foresight chest pool while the run that earned it cannot be resumed.
If you only need to inspect a rule, use the in-game pause or deck view and return to the same session. Do not test saving by quitting a run you want to keep; multiple players report returning to a fresh start.
If a completed unlock appears missing after a normal restart, close the game and check whether Steam is still synchronizing before launching again. Treat this only as a troubleshooting possibility: the cloud configuration proves that JSON files are tracked, not that sync will restore a particular Gift.
On Windows, the configured local path sits under AppData/LocalLow/Team Lazerbeam/Shroom and Gloom/SaveData. On macOS, it sits under Library/Application Support/Team Lazerbeam/Shroom and Gloom/SaveData. Back up those JSON files before troubleshooting or deleting anything.
When Early Access launches on September 10, check the main game's pause menu for Save and Quit or Continue before relying on the promise. The developer has confirmed the feature, but this Demo page does not invent the final menu wording or checkpoint timing.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
In the Demo, reopening after an unfinished run shows a new-run start rather than Continue; after a completed reward, the unlocked Foresight can still appear in later Foresight chests. Those two outcomes confirm that active-run state and persistent unlock state are separate.
VERSION BOUNDARY
Team Lazerbeam explicitly says there is no save functionality in the Demo and that game saves will come to Early Access. SteamDB confirms cloud-tracked JSON files, but their presence does not turn an unfinished run into a resumable save. The September 10 build must be checked before this page describes the full game's exact save timing or menu labels.
